How can you change your company culture to be more inclusive? How can you create a more inclusive business overall?

This is such an important topic, and these are questions that you should be asking yourself as a business owner.

I have been thinking about this a lot recently with my diversity, equality, and inclusion coach and consultant, Erica Courdae, because I am working on making sure that my business is intentionally inclusive.

Erica is joining me in this episode to talk about creating a safe space, building an inclusive environment, and more.

Erica Courdae has dedicated her life to expanding how others interact with the world through powerful conversations. As an entrepreneur and certified coach, her work is focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), imperfect allyship, and imposter syndrome. This work has taken her into communities and onto national stages as a speaker and educator at noteworthy industry events like AltSummit, ShePodcasts Live, and Being Boss.

Erica is also the owner of an inclusive beauty salon, Silver Immersion, and the host of Pause on the Play, a podcast that features open dialogue on topics like company culture, visibility, and mindset. She lives in Maryland with her two children.

On Today’s Show You’ll Learn:

  • Being okay with not being an expert
  • How to begin to shift your business
  • Why you have to start with your own mindset first
  • The importance of acknowledging that you will get things wrong
  • Choosing the uncomfortable thing when it’s the right thing
  • Why you need to pause and take space to take ownership
  • Navigating the fear of cancel culture
  • Creating safety for your team

I so appreciate having Erica as my DEI coach and consultant, and I think you are going to get so much value out of this vulnerable conversation. She is brilliant, a total expert, and unpacks this topic in such an understandable and non-judgemental way.

Tune in to learn more about how I am navigating this and how you can too with Erica’s help!

Also, we are accepting applications for my Accelerator coaching program! This is for online course creators and coaches who are already doing well in their business and are looking to scale. What if it were easy to accomplish all of the daunting tasks in your business such as setting up funnels, writing an email series, researching your perfect customer, and so on?

I heard this concept from Tim Ferriss originally, and it really stuck with me, so it is what I am sharing with you in this quick tip episode.

I am asking you to think about some items in your business that are a little bit more complicated and then take a step back to ask yourself what it would be like if they were easy.

I am also walking you through a few examples in this episode so you can get a good idea of how this works and how you can approach whatever it is in your business that is a little bit more complicated.

When you start to do this, you will see just how many different things your brain can come up with. This is one of the questions I am always asking my accelerator coaching members because I know it is what they need to keep moving forward!

Tune in to learn more about how this can change your process, and how I can help you even more as an accelerator coaching member.

I should have had this conversation with you a long time ago...

In this episode, I am getting vulnerable and sharing with you a shift that has been happening in my business and in my personal life.

This has to do with my very limited perspective and experience of the world and the lack of impact I have been able to make because of it on my family, business, and others that I work with.

As a result, I want to do the work to take responsibility for the process, to understand that my experience is very different from a lot of other people's experiences, and most importantly, learn as much as I can from others even when it is uncomfortable for me.

On Today’s Show You’ll Learn:

  • The lens I have been looking through to view my life and business
  • Why it’s important to me to admit that I don’t have all the answers
  • How I am making a change in my life and business
  • What motivated me to share my experience and thoughts
  • What I'm doing to become a safer, more inclusive person and business

Being vulnerable is not something that is easy for me, but that is no excuse as to why I haven’t talked about this.

The truth is, I've had a lot of different, difficult conversations that have made it really clear that I was not showing up the way that I needed to. I believe that when we know better, we do better, and it's time for me to do better.

Listen in for this honest conversation and hear what I am doing going forward to make changes in my business and my life.

Does starting the hiring process overwhelm you?

In this quick tip episode, I am sharing with you a laser hot seat session that I recently did with one of our Accelerator coaching members where we talk all about getting clarity on who to hire.

This is a topic that comes up a lot, and I think it is because getting started with the hiring experience can be really overwhelming.

In this session, we cover the importance of finding someone you like, training, writing a job description, defining a pay rate, leveraging your resources, and more.

It is really important that you don’t overthink this process. If you start small and decide what you need this person to do and if they are a good personality fit, you will work the rest of the details out.

I totally understand the overwhelm here because I have been there, so tune in to hear how we worked through this feeling with one of our Accelerator coaching members and how I recommend moving forward in the hiring process.

So many of my students struggle with this in their business, and to be honest, I struggled with this too!

In this episode, I am sharing what this looks like for my team and what I recommend that you put into your onboarding process during the first 90 days.

  • Don’t be afraid to ask the new hire what information will be helpful for them
  • What you can include in a pre-boarding process
  • What steps can be automated
  • How to make sure you are clearly communicating values and expectations
  • Tips for breaking up training to reduce overwhelm

Of course, we want our new hires to get up to speed and feel valued as quickly as possible, but keep in mind that in order for someone to start truly contributing to your business, it takes about 90 days.

Listen in for my tips and suggestions for onboarding new hires to make sure that their first 90 days are jam-packed with value and success!

Do you want to know how to start making hires for your business?

I asked my online business manager, Erika Macauley, to join me on the show today. She came into my business at the end of 2020, and she is just amazing. She gets more done part-time than some full-time team members I’ve had in the past.

Today Erika is going to give you a counterintuitive approach to hiring your support staff. She’s walking us through the order in which you should hire support staff, what it costs to hire people in roles like OBM or VA, what to include in your job posting and all kinds of other important things to know.

Erika is a systems slayer, chaos coordinator, Trello evangelist and pretty dang good at whipping the back end of businesses into shape. She’s an OBM, integrator, and project manager who works with 6 and 7-figure creative business owners to get her Type A brain wrangling all their amazing visionary ideas into actionable outcomes.

On Today’s Show You’ll Learn:

  • The difference between support staff roles like OMB, VA, integrator, etc.
  • Signs that you might need an integrator or OBM
  • What order you should be hiring in
  • What it costs to hire people in these roles
  • How to make hires when you’re on a smaller budget
  • Where to find people to hire
  • Examples of what to include in your job posting
  • Things your support team wishes you knew
  • How to get things flowing more smoothly
  • The importance of clearly defined roles

Hopefully this simplifies the hiring process for you and helps you to see what your next steps might be as you grow your team.

If you’re an online course creator, coach, or maybe you have a membership, and you are already having consistent $5K months, but you’re not sure how to take your business to the next level, I have news for you: what you think is holding you back is not what's holding you back.

What you need is a cohesive growth strategy, personalized coaching, group coaching, support, and accountability. That is what I'm offering in my Accelerator coaching program. It’s open, and it’s application only, so go to www.rickmulready.com/accelerator to learn more and apply.

I am back with another quick tip episode.  These episodes have tips or strategies you can use to help you grow your online business so you can have a bigger impact and increase your revenue in the process.

Are you trying to figure out how to stand out in a crowded niche?

If you’ve been listening to the show recently, we’ve been talking about this a lot.

Let me tell you what grade school taught me about it.

Here’s a little fact about me: my biggest pet peeve is being talked down to. Several years ago, I dove into figuring out why that bothers me so much, and I realized that it happened to me a lot as a kid. People often talked at me instead of to me.

When I started my business, my instinct was to talk at people too. That was what I knew, and I wondered why it was so difficult to grow my audience.

In this episode, I’m sharing what I learned from that experience, and how it has helped me connect with my perfect customer, stand out in my niche and grow my business.

It’s going to be a good one. Don’t miss it!

If this is speaking to you, watch Brandon Lucero’s brand new Content Revolution Video Series. You will learn how to create engaging content with unique messaging that creates demand for your offer, builds profitable connection with your audience, and forces you to stand out in your niche.
