On today’s episode I’m chatting with Daniel Danies Hutt, a self-confessed “marketing nerd” who’s originally from England and now living in New Zealand. I’m so excited to bringing this conversation with you, and as you’ll hear, I took down a ton of notes from it during our discussion. Daniel has a ton of amazing online marketing strategies to share here with us, as he’s someone who does the work upfront to set himself up for success.

Daniel got a unique start in entrepreneurship when he created a clothing company overnight. Within 5 weeks he was selling his products in 5 retail stores, and you’re going to learn a very cool Facebook ads strategy that he used to have those 5 stores calling him and asking how they could sell his product.

Things went so well that people started asking him to do marketing for them, including paid ads and content writing, and Daniel and his partner now have two blogs, Inbound Ascension and Amp My Content.

In this episode we look at how Daniel has been driving cold traffic to his content and generating $22 for every dollar spent on ads, and why he is using the conversions objective inside Facebook Ads Manager.

He also reveals the feedback loop he’s using to tell how much money he can be spending per lead, and the importance of working with the Facebook algorithm, and not against it.

Daniel explains how his paid ads are benefiting his organic content, and why he feels that his content is converting so well. Daniel does a great job at testing and not giving up on what he’s trying too soon, and you’ll see that he’s playing the long game when it comes to Facebook advertising (and winning)!

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. How do you listen to this podcast? Is it in the iTunes app, Stitcher, Spotify or maybe iHeart Radio? Do you listen to it at regular speed, or maybe like me you listen to your podcasts at 1.5X speed? I want to know! Take a screenshot of you tuning in to The Art of Paid Traffic, and include it on your Instagram Story, while tagging me, @RickMulready!

Want to win a 30-minute strategy session with me? I’ll be drawing one winner at random each month, and all you have to do is give me your feedback on this podcast over at http://rickmulready.com/messenger , telling me what you’d like to hear more of - including topics you’d like to see covered, guests, style and frequency of the show!

On the Show Today You’ll Learn:

• What Daniel’s current daily ad spend is and why he’s not in a hurry to quickly scale it up

• Why lead cost is the most important metric that he measures

• Where SEO fits into his organic and paid strategies

• What are “Hyper Specific Next Step Offers” (and how he’s getting conversion rates of up to 85% using them)

• The strategies he’s using to increase opt-ins and what he avoids in order to limit resistance from potential subscribers

• What his longer form ads consist of and what the targeting looks like for them

• Examples of ad images and headlines that have been extremely effective in catching the attention of his target audience

• His targeting strategies at the ads set level and how when it comes to marketing, we can all learn from the marketers of the past

• A “sneaky hack” of his that’s simple, but so good (and easy to do)!

Today’s quick tip is about how Facebook is removing the Relevance Score.

Today’s guest is a student of mine who is sharing an amazing story of how she was able to leave her full-time job of teaching in December 2017, after almost 8 years in the classroom, due to the tremendous success of her online business.

Kayse Morris got started on what was then a side hustle 6 years ago by selling her teaching resources on Teacher Pay Teachers. After making $600 in her first year of doing it, in three years she had tripled her salary from teaching and generated 6-figures online.

In this episode Kayse shares why she then decided to give up a stable teaching job and make the leap into full-time entrepreneurship. In her words, she’s doing what she loves now, and it’s been a “wild ride!”

Her first launch in October 2018 generated $127,000 in revenue, selling a $397 product, and quite literally changed her life in the process. Kayse didn’t stop there though, and just a few short months later she made improvements and launched a second time with a $597 product, resulting in another $180,000 in revenue.

You’re going to hear the lessons Kayse has learned along her journey, the strategies she used for both launches, what her biggest fears were, the big mindset shifts she has made since leaving her job, and so much more.

Kayse’s story is so motivating, because she figured out a lot of how to run her business on her own, and she is now showing others how they too can leave their jobs by turning their passions into successful online businesses. She is someone who knows her audience very well, leads with value and the impact she wants to have first, and the financial results followed.

I feel like we just scratched the surface with this conversation, which is why I’ll be excited to bring Kayse back to share more of her experiences with you on the podcast!

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. How do you listen to this podcast? Is it in the iTunes app, Stitcher, Spotify or maybe iHeart Radio? On the Show Today You’ll Learn:

• How Kayse was able to 10x the revenue from her side hustle in just 3 years, and her early attempts to build an email list

• The way she grew her email list from 13,000 people to 21,000 during her first launch - in just one week using an organic strategy

• The ad strategy Kayse used that resulted in a cost per lead of just over 30 cents on that first launch, with an ad spend of just $10 per day

• How she developed her course, after years of validating it, and why knowing her ideal audience inside-out was so key in her success

• What shifts she made for her second launch in order to attract the right students and cultivate a true sense of community

• The ad strategy she used for the second launch and other things she did differently for it, including using affiliates

Today’s episode is a little bit different from what I normally share here on the podcast. A few months ago I opened up to my email list and Instagram followers about the experiences I was having as a new dad, because it was a really hard time for me. The support and outreach I received really touched me, and it inspired me to record this show today.

As you can imagine, I’ve learned a whole lot in the 3 months since my daughter was born. Some of these lessons are applicable to running a business, and I’ll be sharing them with you in this episode of The Art of Paid Traffic.

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. How do you listen to this podcast? Is it in the iTunes app, Stitcher, Spotify or maybe iHeart Radio? • The moment a special connection was made with my daughter

• How control is just an illusion – and what to do instead

• What has happened to my productivity in business since becoming a father

• Why like parenthood, your business too will be a journey

I’ve got a Quick Tip episode coming for you next, and I’ll be sharing my tools and resources for how you can hone your copywriting skills and become a much better copywriter!

Welcome to another Quick Tip episode!

This is where I share a quick tip with you each week that’s related to Facebook ads or online marketing or just general growing your business tips.

Today’s quick tip looks at if it's ok to turn off and turn back on campaigns.

Let’s jump into it...

Mar 6, 2019

Today’s guest has been a listener of the podcast for years now, back to when she was working a corporate job, and you’re going to be super-impressed with what she’s accomplished in her business to date.

Angie Gensler has a social media and digital marketing blog, where she focuses on teaching small businesses owners how to grow their business in a simplified way – without all the hustle.

Angie says she was basically a “team of one” as a marketer for a multi-million dollar company before making the leap to entrepreneurship, which was the driving force behind starting her own business to help other solopreneurs.

In this episode she reveals how her business started as a side hustle, but with the intent to do it full-time eventually, and her almost two-year journey to get there.

Angie was able to leave her corporate job in April of 2018, and today she breaks down her November 2018 ad campaign in which she absolutely crushed it! You’ll hear how she generated almost $200,000 in sales on a $60,000 ad spend mainly targeting cold traffic.

She reveals the strategy and mindset behind creating her amazing ads, including one ad that got engagement and social proof that will blow your mind! Angie also talks about how she used upsells, targeted niches and scaled her ads up effectively starting with just $10 test ads and the fears she faced in doing this.

The approach Angie took may not be the one that I’d recommend for everyone starting out, but she tracked her stats, used really good looking ads and planned things out to maximize her success. The results she’s achieved certainly speaks for themselves, and Angie is just getting started.

On the Show Today You’ll Learn:

• How Angie leveraged Pinterest to initially grow her list and business

• The way she has continued to improve and build on her lead magnet that she turned into her main paid product

• Angie’s Facebook ads strategy and funnel, and the upsells that generated and extra $34,000 and $12,000 of additional revenue for her launch

• Why she targeting specific niches with her ads and used conversions as her objective

• The mindset shift Angie had to make around ad spend in order to scale up from running $10 test ads

• Where she is looking to go now with her business and my recommendation for what she should focus on in 2019
