On today’s episode I’m welcoming back a student of mine to the podcast. The last time Jennifer Myers was here, she was talking about how realtors can grow their business with Facebook and Instagram ads, but this time is different. We’re talking about how she took her business online and launched her very first online program, and what Jennifer had to get past to make it a success.

Paid traffic is important, but they’re just one piece of the puzzle in order to have a successful business, and as you’ll hear you need to have things like the right mindset, positioning and the ability to communicate your value proposition to get to that next level.

Once Jennifer had these things in place, she finally launched her online program for the first time and did $30,000, with an email list of just 350 people at that time.

Jennifer had a lot of mental blocks she had to overcome to take her business online though after building such a successful realty brokerage over the last number of years, which you’ll find out today.

This is a case study that so many of you are going to be able to relate to and benefit from. Jennifer is creating the type of business she wants to have, on her own terms, and transforming the lives of so many other real estate agents in the process!

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. How do you listen to this podcast? Is it in the iTunes app, Stitcher, Spotify or maybe iHeart Radio? Do you listen to it at regular speed, or maybe like me you listen to your podcasts at 1.5X speed? I want to know! Take a screenshot of you tuning in to The Art of Paid Traffic, and include it on your Instagram Story, while tagging me, @RickMulready!

Want to win a 30-minute strategy session with me? I’ll be drawing one winner at random each month, and all you have to do is give me your feedback on this podcast over at http://rickmulready.com/messenger, telling me what you’d like to hear more of - including topics you’d like to see covered, guests, style and frequency of the show!

On the Show Today You’ll Learn:

  • The moment that first pushed Jennifer towards the life she really wanted to live and the steps she took to transition to an online business

  • How she was able to sell program at $5,000, and why having a small group of students register for the first launch has been a huge benefit to her

  • What struggles she faced in taking her business online, and what the process of creating and launching her first course looked like

  • One important thing she decided early on to get really intentional about

  • How Jennifer emailed a list she hadn’t reached out to in 6 months, and what her messaging and offer to them looked like

Today’s episode is a special one, as you’re actually going to hear the process that one of my students, Lea Pickard, went through before, during and after she sat on the “hot seat” at our recent Accelerator retreat.

Lea is a happiness expert who has studied wellness as an anthropologist, looking at different cultures around the globe. She has taught college, and realizing she wanted to apply more of the knowledge she gained over the years, she began teaching yoga before starting her online business to help women like her who felt “stuck.”

As you’ll hear, Lea has a unique voice and niche, and she puts together the science of happiness with what she calls the “soul” of it. In this episode Lea shares the process she went through getting ready to launch her first online program, Shine, and she talks about all of the struggles she had in having a lot of information about her product, but not the clarity in her positioning and message to sell it effectively.

A big part of what Lea shares is about the value she found in having fresh eyes look at her course and business. The input from the group members, as well as her getting “Mulready’d” (she explains in this conversation what this means!) put her on the path to being about to take the tremendous amount of info and turn it into something that she could clearly express to someone wanting to buy her product.

Once she got out of her own way, Lea was really able to shine and regardless of what niche you operate in, her story has lots of lessons that can be applied to your business. I can’t wait to have her back on the show to update us on the results from her first launch!

On the Show Today You’ll Learn:

  • What Lea means when she says that “action brought her clarity” and the transformational mindset shifts she made while in the hot seat
  • The realizations she made to be able to speak to the opportunity for her customers, while remaining within Facebook’s ad guidelines
  • The copy and terminology she used to address the transformation, instead of focusing on the negatives with where he prospects are right now
  • Her tips for other online course creators that may be stuck in their positioning or messaging
  • What Lea’s launch looked like and the livestream launch formula that generated leads costing under $1 - to cold traffic!
  • The two types of ads she ran and how she was able to build an engaged group of over 200 members in just a few short days

  • A killer strategy and tool, or “game changer” she used to build engagement with her customers

Building an email list is one of the most important aspects of your business, but I know from experience that it can be really easy to fall into the comparison trap when it comes to the size of your list.Today’s guest is Tarzan Kay, and her story is proof that when it comes to email lists, the quality of your subscribers matters much more than the quantity.

Tarzan is a launch strategist and copywriter who also teaches others how to have a healthy relationship with money. She recently finished in an impressive fourth place for affiliates of Amy Porterfield’s Digital Course Academy, with a list of 3,000 people (compared to other affiliates with much bigger lists)!

In fact, she generated about $35,000 in affiliate commissions from the promotion, which shows that you absolutely do no need a big email list to make big money in your business.

Today Tarzan shares all of her secrets of how to engage a smaller email list for maximum results. We talk about the segmenting to use to increase engagement and sales from your list, and why you shouldn’t be sending your newsletter to everyone that has subscribed to it. She also gives two big reasons why her audience loves her so much, which you can start using in your business - today!

Speaking is a critical skill that’s needed in order to sell your products and services, and in order to grow your online business, you need to sell. That is why I’m bringing my good buddy Colin Boyd on to the podcast to share his expertise with you today. Colin is a brilliant coach, International speaker, business mentor and an authority on influence, persuasion and communication, and he shares how you can use speaking to grow and scale your business, in an authentic way.

By “speaking” we’re not just talking about from the stage though, even though Colin considers speaking from stage “the mecca.” Speaking also means when you do live video, Instagram Stories, webinars and all the other ways you are communicating with your audience in verbal form.

In this episode Colin is going to reveal the 6 levels of structuring your speaking, so you can better connect with your audience and drive them to take whatever actions it is that you want them to take.

He talks about what selling actually is when it comes to presenting something to your audience, how to get people literally nodding in agreement to what you’re saying, and why addressing the “yeah but….” objections is critical, and can easily be done with the right approach.

Speaking is a skill that I’ve worked really hard on over the years, and Colin has been a huge help for me in doing this. In fact, I even open up about my very first speaking gig in 2013 that didn’t go so well, and I discuss what I’ve done to change how I present to groups since then.

Becoming a better speaker doesn’t happen overnight, but you can do it and Colin will give you the tools and practical tips to start implementing right away so that you can master your stage, wherever it may be.

On the Show Today You’ll Learn:

  • The very first step to take in leveraging speaking to grow your business and what to do if you really don’t want to get in front of an audience
  • A traumatic event from Colin’s childhood that has influenced his speaking and what he does to this day
  • Why people are afraid of speaking and the 6 levels of the journey a speaker will go on
  • Tangible things you can start doing to improve the connection you have with your audience
  • The biggest webinar mistakes that Colin sees entrepreneurs making – and how to avoid them
  • Why more content and teaching isn’t what people are looking for
  • The role your story will play in the mastering of the sales process

Joining me on the show today is my buddy (and brilliant YouTube ads wizard!) Tom Breeze. Tom runs a U.K.-based YouTube ads agency that works with some huge brands and online influencers, and if his name sounds familiar, it’s because this is actually the fourth time he has been a guest on the podcast.

Tom’s not here to talk about YouTube ads today though, although we do touch on it a bit at the beginning of the episode. What we’re really going to dive into is answering a question that I get asked all the time: How much should I be spending on my ad campaign?

He’s going to break this down by getting into all of the stats that we should be keeping an eye on if we want to be running successful ad campaigns on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and the other online platforms that exist.

By this end of this episode you’re even going to have an equation for calculating your exact cost for acquiring a customer, which then tells you exactly how much you can be spending per lead. Not only has Tom created a framework for calculating this figure, but he also bakes in the profit margin to be shooting for.

This is an interview that got me so pumped, and I can’t wait to share it with you. Full disclosure, it is a bit heavy on the math, so I’ve if you’re a visual person like me, I’ve put together a PDF download for you to accompany the episode. This resource outlines the calculation that Tom shares today, and you can download it at http://rickmulready.com/278.

Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. How do you listen to this podcast? Is it in the iTunes app, Stitcher, Spotify or maybe iHeart Radio?
